The Freud Museum London was the final home of Sigmund Freud and his family when they escaped Nazi-occupied Vienna in 1938. The centre piece of the Museum is Freud’s study – preserved as it was in his lifetime and filled with Freud’s books, antiquities collection and the original couch on which Freud’s patients told him their dreams. What are the challenges for psychology education?

In this article in the Czech education journal Pedagogika*, Lenka Sokolová responds to questions including “What do you see as the main challenges for psychology education?” and “What changes do you expect to see in psychology education in relation to these challenges?” Lenka is an EFPTA Past President and Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at Comenius University (Bratislava). The journal issue also features a number of interesting contributions from other experts on challenges in education (all available in English).

New Challenges for Education in Times of Crisis and Major Societal Changes

EFPTA 2026 Conference – “Why (learning) psychology matters”: deadline extended for submitting posters!

If you haven’t already booked, register here, and secure your place at our EFPTA 2026 Conference in Ljubljana, 16-19 April!

We’re delighted that we have already received a good number of submissions for posters – this is the first time that an EFPTA Conference will include poster presentations! As we want to offer as much opportunity as possible for potential poster presenters, we are now extending the submission deadline to 13 March 2026. Find full details here, and submit your poster proposal via the online form. We will notify you by 20 March, whether accepted or otherwise. Important – if your poster is accepted, you can register to attend the Conference at the Earlybird rate, even though that deadline has passed!

The Conference programme is coming together. Our Keynote Speakers for the Ljubljana 2026 EFPTA Conference will be Professor Katja Košir of the Department of Psychology, University of Maribor, Slovenia, and Professor Ana Kozina, Head of Centre at the Pedagoški inštitut (Educational Research Institute), Ljubljana, Slovenia.

And we are delighted, too, that Professor Anja Podlesek, Ph.D, the President of Društvo psihologov Slovenije (the Slovenian Psychologists’ Association), and Professor at the Department of Psychology, University of Ljubljana, will give a welcome speech at the opening of Conference along with EFPTA President, Mairi Rice.

You can register to attend the conference here. The online form contains information on fees as well as practical info for taking part in the Conference. There are not many places still available, so book as soon as possible. Here you will find helpful information about transport and hotels in Ljubljana, including a hotel that offers a discount code.

We received a great set of interesting  submissions for workshops, symposia, and short talks! Check out the list of short presentations for the plenary session on “Psychology teaching in Europe’s schools” on Friday afternoon, giving a snapshot of developments in psychology education across Europe, and the workshops schedule on Saturday.  We are very grateful for these contributions to the programme from the European psychology teaching community: this allows us to offer a wide range of topics, all relevant to the conference theme of “Why (learning) psychology matters”; presenters will be from diverse  backgrounds, perspectives, and nationalities, including psychology teachers, teacher educators, researchers. We hope you will find the programme varied and inclusive!

The conference schedule overview has information on venue and conference timings over the four days, to help you plan your trip. We are indebted to our Slovenian colleagues who will host the conference, and to the National Education Institute of Slovenia and the Secondary School of Nursing, Ljubljana, for their generous support. Psychology is widely taught in high schools in Slovenia, and it is one of the most popular subjects; find more information about psychology education in schools in Slovenia here.

EFPTA Conferences attract participants of many nationalities and are conducted in English. Our very successful 2024 Conference in Helsinki was attended by participants of 17 nationalities from Europe and beyond, and we very much look forward to getting together again with our international colleagues in psychology education in the spring of 2026!

If you would like to publicise the Ljubljana Conference in your school/institution, you can download a printable A3 poster or A5 two-sided flyer.

The EFPTA Conference organising group are working hard to plan the event, and meanwhile, watch this space for more updates.

We are looking forward to getting together in Ljubljana on 16-19 April 2026!

You can register here.
